This new 220 ton/hr boiler is the second Thermal Energy Systems boiler for Grupo Occidente, a joint venture between Saenz and ED&F Man, the London traders.

The boiler is designed for an operating condition of 5,300 kPa and 460 ºC, the optimum conditions for the particular site when exporting electricity. It is equipped with TES pinhole grate, triple drum bagasse feeders, pneumatic spreaders and steam cyclones.

The biggest engineering challenge was the seismic conditions at Tamazula : it is located right on a major fault, essentially an extension of California's notorious San Andreas fault. This is self-evident in the structural steel design which is clearly seen in the picture below.
